Introducing an Easy Way to Join the Local Fight Against Breast Cancer.

Always ahead of the trend to saving lives from breast cancer in our neighborhoods, the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is utilizing 'text to donate' to increase fundraising for the upcoming Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure. As is also always true with Komen Philadelphia Affiliates initiatives, this unique opportunity is about much more than raising money.  Mobile donors will also have the opportunity to join our mobile community after donating to receive updates on how their support saves lives. 

 

"We want everyone to feel empowered to help save the lives of their loved ones, neighbors, colleagues, hairdressers... the woman who waves from her porch every morning as they walk the dog," said Elaine I. Grobman, Chief Executive Officer of the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate. "Texting PINK to 27722 to donate $5 is an easy way for people to truly make a difference.

 

"The path from texting to empowering is direct: each text generates a donation to our Race for the Cure. Race fundraising fuels our Community Grants Program. Through the program we distribute grants to local organizations who in turn provide educational, diagnostic, screening, treatment and other support services to women in need - those without the coverage or means to pay for it themselves."

 

Grobman said that 25% of Race fundraising is also used for research; so, while The Affiliate is saving lives today, they are also helping drive the science that will assure future generations live free from the threat of breast cancer.

 

Texting PINK carries another important message: every dollar counts!

 

"Some may say, 'each text ONLY donates $5.' But as we see it different - it ONLY takes 25 people texting one time to generate enough to fund a mammogram for a woman in need! And that one mammogram doesn't only bring piece of mind and possibly save the life of the woman who receives it... it impacts all of her loved ones as well. When you think in these terms, one $5 text yields a lot of power."

 

Finally, texting PINK demonstrates The Affiliate understands how people live today and that economic times are still challenging. For many, it's not always easy to write a check for the cause. Some may want to contribute but are embarrassed they can't give what they feel is 'significant'.  Some simply may not have the time.  And in a society trending toward 'digital and cashless', some may not have the cash on hand to drop into a donation box.
