Pledge Power: One Man, One Passion, $75,000!

Last year, Walter Rosewitski had a personal fundraising goal for the Komen Philadelphia Race for the cure of $50,000. And now, in celebration of our blockbuster 20th anniversary of the Race in Philadelphia, Walt is out to top that total.

Sound a little overly ambitious? Certainly not - considering that over the past three years, Walt has single-handedly raised nearly $75,000 in funds to support his walk in the annual Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure. The Cherry Hill resident isn't a corporate "mogul." He's not a famous scientist with hundreds of wealthy connections. He's a modest working man, with a personal mission to save lives, a great deal of ambition and a deep passion to make a difference in the breast cancer movement.

"Anyone can do it," said Walt humbly. "All you need is a love for other people and the ability to find in yourself the desire to do something... anything... to better the lives of other people. For me, that course is one day finding a cure for breast cancer, and in the meantime empowering those fighting the disease."

Walt's "secret" to raising that great sum of money is one he openly shares with anyone, and sums up in one word:

TIME.

"There is nothing really special about what I do," said Walt. "It just involves taking the time to ask people on a regular basis. I just talk to them about my goal and the great things the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate is doing every day to save lives and find a cure. Then, I tell them to write a check to Komen."

Walt went on to say that most people give because they, too, want to help make a difference.

Clearly, with a passionate heart like this, Walt didn't raise nearly $75,000 for the fame and accolades... not even for the 42" Plasma TV he won as the highest individual fundraiser for the 2008 Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure. Walt's motivation was a dear friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer about twenty years ago. His activism in the breast cancer movement, which includes participating in the Race every year, is in her honor.

This year, as we mentioned, Walt is aiming for $50,000+ and the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate - as well as the thousands of women in need depending on our services and those of our Grantees - hope he has some heavy competition in the fundraising arena!
