Komen Philadelphia Service AreaThe Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, established in 2001, serves the 13 counties of  Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware,Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery, Philadelphia, and York in Pennsylvania; Kent, New Castle, and Sussex in Delaware; and Camden County in New Jersey.

Since the Philadelphia Affiliate was started in 2001, over $12 million has been distributed in grants to local organizations providing education, screening, treatment and support to the medically underserved, as well as over $4 million in funds to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure national breast cancer research grant program.

The Philadelphia Affiliate conducts free cultural outreach events which promote early detection and closing the gap of disparity for the underinsured and uninsured.  Events are designed to address the specific needs of the African-American, Latina and Asian-American communities.

Support for educational events and grants is possible due to the overwhelming response of volunteers and donors who participate in the Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure®, the Komen Philadelphia Pink Tie Ball®, many exciting and fun third party fundraisers, as well as ongoing individual and corporate donations.

The Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure® attracts approximately 45,000 participants, over 95 local corporate sponsors, more than 20 local healthcare sponsors, and in 2007 raised over $3.5 million.  The Komen Philadelphia Pink Tie Ball® is attended by more than 400 community members who together with our generous corporate sponsors raised over $500,000 in 2007.

Looking forward, Komen Philadelphia Affiliate is working to grow our outreach events to spread the vital messages of early detection and treatment, to increase education and awareness, and to do everything possible to fulfill our promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.
